Starting September strong, Boogie and The Yo-Yoz Play At The Sheboygan County Fair

As someone who was unaware of this band (shocking apparently), I was wowed by Boogie and the Yo-Yoz performance. If you are living under a rock, as I apparently was, the band started performing in 1995 under the name Cornerstone. The band changed their name to Yogi and the Boo-Booz  after the original drummer's nickname (Brian ''Yogi'' Yogers).

Known for their covering hit songs and their high energy performances, Yogi and the Boo-Booz quickly grew in popularity.  Popularity can be a double edged sword and while it helped the band book more shows, it got Hanna-Barbera's (the creators of the famous cartoon The Yogi Bear Show) and they were forced to change their name.  Always mindful of their fans, the band, on New Year's Eve of 1997 gave the audience 5 choices for a new name.  Based on the loudest cheers, the band officially became Boogie and the Yo-Yoz at midnight on Jan. 1st 1998 and hasn't looked back since.

It was apparent to me that this band was special as I walked through the near empty fairgrounds  of Sheboygan County to see a giant crowd around the medium stage they were set up on. One of the band's strong beliefs is having high energy (in their own words, everything at "110%"), and they boy, do they deliver!  The moment the music started, the crowd began screaming and singing along.

While the band has changed, as far as who comprises it, (the only originals are Dave Lange - bass guitar and Eric Peters - lead guitar) one thing that remains constant is that every member of the band is highly dedicated to their craft and all members sing and play multiple instruments. My mother, used to go see the band when they were Yogi and the Bo-Booz and I can honestly say that this is one of the few bands that we both can agree on.  From watching the crowd, it was easy to see that we are not the only set of multi-generational fans!  Maybe next time I'll let her tag along with me!
