The Mavericks, an American band from Miami, Florida, known for their multicultural Americana music which combines folk, country, and rock, with Latin influences, preformed in Milwaukee last Friday (3/21/25), at the Miller High Life Theatre. The band has been accompanying country star, Dwight Yoakam for his "Cosmic Roundup & Rodeo Tour." with dates spanning from March to October 2025. (With Americana artist, Noah Rinker, also having a hearty 45-minute set before their performance.)

The Mavericks consist of, Raul Malo with vocals and guitar, Paul Deakin on drums, Jerry Dale McFadden on Keyboards, and vocals, and Eddie Perez on Lead Guitar and vocals.

Also with them are touring artists, accordionist Percy Cardona, trumpet player Julio Diaz and saxophonist Max Abrams who brought the whole band together, given off a twangy southern feel with the Latin twist they promise in their shows. Each band member offered their own solo, showing off their individual talents that certaintly weren't lacking, with the audience dancing before the end of the first song.

The Mavericks gained popularity in the 1990s with hits like "What a Crying Shame" and "Dance the Night Away." Their music often features upbeat rhythms, rich harmonies, and a mix of instruments, including accordion and horns, which add to their diverse sound.

They went on a hiatus in the early 2000s but reunited in 2012 and have continued to release new music and tour. The band is celebrated for their innovative approach to country music and their ability to cross genres, appealing to many fans.

With the band supporting Dwight Yoakman, many tour dates are still available, and can be found on their website here.
