Insane Clown Posse Took Over Milwaukee At The Rave

The Rave in Milwaukee was packed wall-to-wall in the Saturday heat with face paint, Faygo, and a kind of chaos that only Insane Clown Posse can deliver. Following their show in Bonnaroo prior to its cancellation, ICP turned the venue into a swamp of Faygo and thrilled clown-dressed fans.

But before the main act hit the stage, the night kicked off with a trio of very different openers that made for a truly wild lead-in.

JCW Wrestling: Body Slams and Body Paint

Most concerts don’t open with wrestling, but it honestly was a welcome surprise. JCW (Juggalo Championship Wrestling) had a full ring set up in the venue, and a rotation of wrestlers from scantily clad… warriors (?) to zombies threw each other around in front of a screaming crowd. Probably one of the most entertaining openers there could be, even if it had me wincing every time someone was slammed onto the ground.

Sammy Sosa

Next up was Sammy Sosa, not the retired baseball player, but a up and coming rapper with real stage presence. His beats were heavy and clean, and his lyrics hit with a kind of confidence that didn’t feel forced.

Wakkoo the Kidd

Then came Wakkoo the Kidd, a prominent rapper from LA who has been in the industry for over a decade now. With a ton of energy and one of the faster flows of the night, he definitely wasn’t an opener new to the ICP fans.

ICP: The Main Attraction

When ICP finally took the stage, the place erupted. Say what you want about them, but Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope still know exactly how to work a crowd. They came out spraying Faygo and wearing their iconic face paint to a venue filled with screaming fans.

The hip hop duo gave fans the following set list, which, while it seemed short for how long the whole event was (wrestling and openers), with the “Faygo breaks” in between and a crowd of fans rallying onto the stage by the end of the show, seemed to have no complaints.

Final Thoughts

There’s no show quite like an ICP show. Between the mini-wrestling event, the rising local openers, and a headlining set that was more community gathering than concert, it was a reminder of why they’ve kept their fan base so loyal for so long.

Further events, including the “Gathering of the Juggalos” 25th Anniversary in Thornville, Ohio, can be found on the duo’s website here.
