California based rising artist, Slater, plays in Milwaukee, continues his Country-wide tour.
From seductive club bangers to therapeutic, night-time-cruising tunes, Slater has solidified his role as a tastemaker and star of the new wave of alternative pop. Since 2013, Southern California’s rising underground sensation, Slater, has blended the best elements of alternative, pop, and hip hop into a new, unique sound all of his own. Smooth, groovy, and infectious, his niche style is as reminiscent of early 00’s pop and radio hits as it is innovative and fresh. As a member of the collective, Vada Vada (consisting of The Garden, Enjoy, Puzzle, Cowgirl Clue, Lumina, and Glitch), Slater is no stranger to experimentation. With over 20 releases under his belt, he continues sonically evolving his signature sound.

For a weeknight in Milwaukee, Slater brought in an impressive crowd. When I first walked in to the venue, I was confused if I was at the right place; it was nearly empty, but as the opener got about half way through the building, it began to fill. Even with the fewer people, the energy for this singer was undeniable. The more intimate crowd didn't seem to take away from the performance though; honestly, it seemed as if it made the energy even more noticeable. From the start of the set list till the last song, fans seemed excited at each part.

As someone who hasn't heard Slater's music before, the most notable part for me was the differing genre and wave-like sound effects that played loudly between songs. One second the music seemed melodic, similar to what you would hear in a cafe or salon, and the next it was more like house party music, changing the vibes of the night with each song.
On Slater's, "Next To Nowhere." tour, he traveled across the country, (with some changes from his original lineup), with notable locations such as Las Vegas, Chicago, and most notably Brooklyn New York where he preforms at The Garden. Concluding his tour on November 23rd, Slater will finish in LA which is more local for him. If you ever have a chance to make one of his shows, I would fully recommend it.
