"Get The Led Out" Preforms at Riverside Theater, a Celebration of Led Zeppelin

Philadelphia-based band "Get The Led Out" performed at Riverside Theater in Milwaukee last Saturday. Known as "The American Led Zeppelin," the band is known for, and prides themselves on, celebrating the history and authenticity of the band, without the fake accents or wigs. There are a handful of differences between Led Zeppelin and Get The Led Out, which make this tribute band unique. Firstly, the band has 6 members instead of the 4 members with which Led Zeppelin is known. The band has stated, ""GTLO's mission is to bring the studio recordings of Led Zeppelin to life in concert...Quite simply, it's physically impossible for only 4 people to recreate those amazing recordings in a live performance."

As the band claims, what really made them unique as a cover band was the authenticity and passion of what they're doing. The members, consisting of Paul Sinclair (lead vocals, harmonica), Paul Hammond (guitar, mandolin), Tommy Zamp (guitar, vocals), Seth Chrisman (bass, vocals), Derek Smith (drums, percussion), and Eddie Kurek (keyboard, guitar, vocals, percussion), aren't trying to be Robert Plant or Jimmy Page and instead add their own twist to the iconic songs while not dampening what made them fan favorites in the first place.

The band played Led Zeppelin covers (obviously), along with a handful of other covers to fill out the show. Their setlist goes as follows:

Good Times Bad Times

The Wanton Song

Dancing Days

Hot Dog

Ten Years Gone

Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You

Ramble On

Nobody's Fault but Mine

(Blind Willie Johnson cover)

Going to California

(Acoustic)

Tangerine

(Acoustic)

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

(Acoustic)

Set 2:

In the Light

Moby Dick

Thank You

Bring It On Home

(Willie Dixon cover)

Royal Orleans

Kashmir

Encore:

When the Levee Breaks

(Memphis Minnie & Kansas Joe McCoy cover)

Stairway to Heaven

Whole Lotta Love

The show itself started at around 8, played for around an hour or so, had a 20-minute intermission, and continued performing till around 10. It was fun to see all the ages of the fans: grandparents with little toddlers, parents with their kids; there were people of every age (though there was a good amount of people who were probably alive before Led Zeppelin was even a band).

Even with the majority of older-aged individuals, the show began with tons of energy, with grannies grooving and moving to the songs. (Although there seemed to be one guy not very thrilled at the fact everyone was standing and insisted on making that opinion known, much to the disregard of everyone else.)

Overall, the diverse crowd added to the atmosphere of the concert, creating a show for the shared appreciation of Led Zeppelin and GTLO. There seemed to be a slight loss of energy post-intermission (it was getting late at that point), but an impactful drum solo by Derek Smith with bright lights and lasers brought the energy right back in. With Get The Led Out forming over two decades ago, the experience the band and its members have is noticeable.

For Led Zeppelin fans who are looking for a band that truly appreciates their songs, without just mimicking the performances of the past, Get The Led Out is a show you can't miss. And GTLO's nearly constant touring, it shouldn't be too hard to snag some tickets to this band...
