Black Dahlia Murder Brings Heavy Metal Destruction to Grand Rapids, Michigan

On Friday, April 3rd, Black Dahlia Murder brought their spring break tour to the Intersection in Grand Rapids featuring talent from Corpse Pile, Disembodied Tyrant, and The Acacia Strain.

It was a great show. Corpse Pile opened the night with heavy riffs, pummeling breakdowns, and socially conscious lyrics. They brought the house down as the open and the crowd went nuts, bodies flailing through the intersection show room as they screamed and danced around the stage. The guitars are super sick for this band, and the drumming is next level; I love the booming snare drum this band utilizes. I had never heard of this band before this tour was announced, but now I am definitely a fan.

Disembodied Tyrant was straight heavy. They brought an intensity with them that carried on throughout their entire performance. The vocalist of this band, Blake Mullens, had complete and total control of the enraptured crowd. I was enamored by their stage presence and couldn’t keep my eyes off of them. The pit was moving and groovy the entire night.

Now, The Acacia Strain has been a band I’ve wanted to see for sometime. I’ve been a fan of them for years, dating back to my college years, and they were really phenomenal. Aside from the headliner, who I will get to in a minute, they really did steal the show. From intense riffage thundering through the speakers, to insanely fast drumming and just the stage presence of their vocalist, this band has everything. Their final song, “Car Bomb”, is definitely one of my favorites. This band just has everything a heavy music fan enjoys watching, and I had a ton of fun with their set.

The Black Dahlia Murder headlined this amazing bill of bands and they never disappoint. I saw them a couple years ago open for Knocked Loose, but here they were even better. Unfortunately, I never got to see them with Trevor Strand, their previous vocalist who passed away several years ago, but their new vocalist, Brian Eschbach, has risen to the occasion and has done a tremendous job with the band over the last few years. They’re one of my all time favorite death metal bands. They’re all killer no filler with the vocals and instrumentation brilliantly coming together to create a fantastic experience for fans of heavy music alike.

Overall, this was an absolutely amazing experience and such a good time with awesome bands the entire night.
