Chevelle ROCKED Milwaukee.

The Rave / Eagles Club, Milwaukee, WI, September 11, 2025

Last Thursday, Milwaukee lit up with excitement for Illinois-based American rock band Chevelle, and the show certainly did not disappoint. With openers Dead Poet Society and Asking Alexandria, the lineup was stacked.

Chevelle has been around since the mid‑1990s. Formed by brothers Pete (vocals/guitar) and Sam Loeffler (drums) in Illinois, they built their reputation with hard‑driving riffs balanced by melody and breakthrough albums like Wonder What’s Next (2002), which included hits such as The Red and Send the Pain Below. Over the years they have stayed relatively consistent in sound, but with enough evolution that keeps new material, including the band’s 10th studio album, “Bright as Blasphemy,” which the tour is supporting, still feeling relevant.

Asking Alexandria, formed in 2002, brought a heavier, sometimes more metalcore-type edge, but in recent years they’ve balanced their scream/hard sections with melody and rock dynamics.

Dead Poet Society, formed around 2013, had two albums by 2024 (-! and Fission). Their sound leans into heavy alt‑rock with emotional vocals and dynamic live energy. They’ve been gaining attention, and it shows, with their previous performance at The Rave being at the bar stage, a contrast with their impressive opening set at The Eagles Ballroom.

Dead Poet Society

They went on first, just after doors, around 7:00 or so. The house was half full: rail riders, die‑hards, merch‑hunters. They opened with something punchy, "Intoodeep," with their newer tracks also getting strong reactions from excited fans. By their closer, “Hurt,” the room was buzzing with excitement and the applause was genuine, setting a high bar for the rest of the night.

Asking Alexandria

Next came Asking Alexandria, bringing a heavier rock look, bright lights, strong stage presence, and heavy guitars cutting through. They opened with “Things Could Be Different,” a more recent track from 2023, with “Dark Void” following. There were moments of duality: some songs were heavier, some melodic, and some slowed down. Their set closed strong with “The Final Episode (Let's Change the Channel),” leaving the crowd fired up, ready for Chevelle.

Chevelle

By the time Chevelle came on (roughly 9pm or so), the Eagles Ballroom was packed. Every tier seemed full; front of house, balcony, people everywhere. When the first chord rang out, the crowd was roaring. They opened with “Family System” and “The Clincher.”

What stood out was the pacing: mixing heavy, riff‑driven tracks with slower, more atmosphere‑laden moments so the crowd got breathing space but never let the energy drop too far. (One moshpit in the middle never seemed to stop.) The newer material the tour was supporting held up live, and fans seemed thrilled with the fresh songs, something that isn’t always a guarantee for longtime acts.

The encore consisted of fan demands, including “The Red” and “Comfortable Liar.” When the last chord died, the cheers lingered.

Crowd & Vibe

The crowd was electric. Fans seemed to bring a mix: longtime Chevelle devotees, the metalcore crowd from Asking Alexandria, and newcomers who discovered Dead Poet Society. The pit was active, front center, with seemingly never-ending crowd surfing starting in the middle of Asking Alexandria’s set and not stopping till the last note of Chevelle’s, with even fans in upper levels leaning into the craziness.
