Faye Webster is an American singer-songwriter and musician known for her unique blend of indie, R&B, and folk characteristics. Her music often features smooth, soulful vocals and a laid-back, melancholic sound. Her third album, "Atlanta Millionaires Club," released in 2019, is where her reach began to spread. The album includes standout tracks like "Room Temperature" and "Kingston," which became hits on social medias. In 2021, she released her fourth album, "I Know I'm Funny haha," further establishing her as a rising star in the indie music scene.

The indie singer stopped in Milwaukee last Monday (3/10/25) and played to the sold out Riverside Theater of nearly 3,000 people. The line even getting into the venue spanned across the street, something not typically for the Milwaukee venue. Even when fans made it into the theater, the building was packed. Fans buzzed with excitement for Webster, with the pit filling up nearly an hour before the show and merch lines going up and down the stairwells.

The show started with Japanese indie singer, Mei Ehara who has been opening for Webster during her, “Underdressed at The Symphony Tour,” in addition to her collaborations on the song, “Overslept” in the “I Know I’m Funny Haha,” album. Her music, while not in English, didn’t need to be understood to make an impact. Ehara’s music can be characterized as soft and relaxing with deeper emotional interpretations which she mentions in an interview wtih View of The Arts, “I aimed to arrange it (The Fruit Not Yet Ripe) with a mood that overlooks and comforts oneself, and portrays the anxiety and suffocation from nervousness after making a mistake through BPM and drum bass. I’m not sure if it’s coming across as intended, though.”

At around 9:10, (An hour after Ehara and her band began,) Webster took the stage, to the delight of her fans who were screaming her name and compliments to the artist. The indie singer-songwriter began her set with her band, and went through it pretty quickly. I noticed a limited amount of fan interaction (which I’m a sucker for but realize not all artists are interested in). This made the already short set of about an hour seem to go even quicker, but the fans didn’t seem to mind, instead being thrilled to start one song right after the other.

You also can’t help but notice the band supporting Webster during her show, many playing multiple instruments whether it be violin, saxophone, guitar, or keyboard, each musician held their own and turned a small group into a symphony. Even with the change of instruments though, I did notice the songs did seem very similar in theme, which made it difficult to tell the difference between songs. Overall though, the show had unique visuals, engaged fans, and talented musicians that made it a show worth seeing for any fans.
